"Einstein Innovative Learning Center " Agenda 2020 Story of a struggle for 15 months for Scientific Innovation
“Einstein Innovative Learning Center” Agenda 2020
It was 10th January 2018 and at the end of my residency interview conversation at Einstein Hospital Philadelphia, Professor asked me, “which thing in your life gave you an ultimate thrilling sensation” For one moment I hold my breath and my heart beat became fast and I replied, “A feeling of happiness and joy on the faces of those little kids that I saw while establishing a library in my town was my ultimate sensation, perhaps I did very little but it was lot for them”. Professor replied, “Why did you not tell me this before?” And then the whole conversation started again about how it can be improved more and the idea came into my mind which I first shared with him on that day, the idea of establishing a center for innovation… “Einstein Innovative Learning Center” in which students of an underdeveloped area can learn and excel more as the innovator of science, leader of the country and a helping force for the community.
After that day, I started my work behind the scene for this initiative. I studied different education model in my busy schedule and try to write down any new thing that can be valuable to make this center one of the best. I talked with hundreds of people who had experienced in this innovative model. First I was impressed by Yale University Innovative learning center and I reach out to them. They agreed to put my idea in front of their panel and gave their valuable suggestion for the innovation. Some people asked me why you doing this, it is not possible at first place and it will also make you even poor in regard to your budget and your family will suffer. During these months I was also recalling some very bad experience happened after we established the library in one of the Government Primary school in my area. I can’t describe the whole emotional breakdown that I passed through including my family but it’s the price that sometimes we have to pay for any good work. The best thing is when you do something good for others without any lust then you are not afraid of any loss but you get contented heart.
I shared my thoughts about this initiative with my father, he said “I want live to live a simple life. Take care of your family and do what you want to do for others” In his heart, he was probably preparing himself for another resistance coming ahead as he passed through that in the recent past after first library project. Many of my very own friends advised me to stay away from this initiative because as per them, money spent on a Government institute is useless as Government systems are hard to accept the change and I will get nothing from them and my family will suffer. In my mind and heart, the purpose of spending in a Government Institute is that it’s no one property but will benefit the poor students years and years to come. World Top Universities, Harvard, John Hopkins, and Yale are great places for research and innovation because people with good intentions donate heavily for scientific innovation every year
After months of long discussions, opinions, and feedback, I decided to work on the next step of this initiative and that was streamlining my thoughts. Few weeks passed and one day one of the students who was working with me asked about my future plan and I shared with him the story of this initiative. He is a Ph.D. graduate and has worked for volunteer activities in the USA . He said, “ you should get the help from the University of Illinois Urbana for these ideas. But before that, you have to streamline your work and select the board of director and advisory board so that they should know that you are genuinely working for a true cause. You can make a simple website to streamline the work”. I spent my next month in making that website in my free time and here is the link of that www.scienceeducationforall.org. I named my all efforts into, “Science Education Initiative for All”
For the board of Director and advisory board for scientific initiative for all, I worked for the next 2 month because it requires a very hard job to select a genuine and true helper for the desired post. Sometimes I wondered that no one is going to be ready but I kept trying to search the good people who are motivated to do the desired job. Few Scientists accepted the position and their brief biography is mentioned at the end of this page. All of them are very hard working and kind enough to accept the Board of Director position.
I shared my all thoughts for this initiative with all advisory board members for their feedback and after 1-2 month process of feedback collection, we came up with Agenda 2020 to apply in Government Higher Secondary School Shah Jamal which is one of oldest School established in British Regime more than Century ago and provides education to thousands of students and hundreds of teachers every year. My ultimate wish was to make new Multipurpose hall for the accomplishment of these goals but at this stage of my life, I can't make this happen because of extremely expensive nature of that hall and we decided to improve the already present system in the school with best possible effort. I shared my agenda with professors of Physics at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign and they also helped me in directing these goals and patched me with LUMS professor. I will share more details as we move to the implementation phase of each goal. Goals for this initiative finally streamlined as below:
“Einstein Innovative Learning Center " Agenda 2020
1. Up gradation of All Physics, Biology, and chemistry laboratories with new infrastructure as guided by experts in the field.
2. Provision of New and innovative methods to apply in these laboratories through online courses/ Materials /Training of teachers
3. Audiovisual setup in all labs
4. Getting school affiliated with other national and international academic institutions to foster innovation, creativity, and research
5. Annual Award for best students who made a difference in their respective field- "Einstein Innovative Learning award"
6 Problem-Based Innovative learning
7. Annual Scientific Quiz competition and the winner will be awarded " Bu Ali Sena Achievement Award"
8. Top Research oral and poster presentations award
9. Special Carrier counseling sessions with experts in their respective fields
10. Recipients of Best "Einstein innovative award and Bu Ali Sena award" will have special mentoring sessions through all possible sources so that the best minds could be nurtured even further
All of these tasks need so much hard work and real struggle lies in the implementation of these goals. As per my experience, I would expect some resistance in some forms but it’s natural to have resistance in any good work you do in your life. I have made a plan of actions for each of this goal and my brother Muhammad Asif Laghari will be one on grounds here in Pakistan for coordination and implementation of these goals in accordance with Government rules.
Today, I visited this Higher Secondary school and checked the condition of Laboratories which was not good and I can't describe the functional level of these labs. InshAllah in next 5 month, we will complete our first agenda of Laboratories upgradation up to the mark with all possible facilities inshAllah with the help of Allah. I need your prayers for the completion of these tasks. These are very tough steps requiring a lot of courage, energy, time and finances and it's my believe Allah helps those who have good intentions for others.
While I was concluding my speech to the more than 1000 of students today, in question & Answer session, a student asked the last question. Why you are doing all this and what will you get in return of this?
My answer was in one word ..." Peace" Peace of Heart.
